It’s the 4th of July, and the energy along the Fylde Coast is electric. The Lytham Festival is nearing its grand finale, and with the Pet Shop Boys taking the stage tonight, the atmosphere is at a fever pitch.
As a hotelier, this is peak season. My days are a blur of activity, and I rarely manage to get down to the festival grounds myself. By the time breakfast service is finished, check-outs are handled, and the house is ready for the next wave of arrivals, it’s usually far too late to think about grabbing tickets.
However, if I do find a spare hour, I like to take a stroll down toward Fairhaven Lake. It’s just a stone’s throw from Lytham Green and a wonderful spot to soak up the festival atmosphere from afar. With the wind in the right direction, you can hear the music drifting over the sand and even catch a glimpse of the stage lights against the evening sky. It’s a nice way to feel part of the excitement without being in the thick of the crowd.
We’re seeing many new faces this week. A lot of our festival guests have never visited St Annes before, so we’ve been directing them to the guide on our website which helps with the essentials: how to find us, where to park, and the easiest ways to get over to the Green.
Many guests are visiting for just one night to see their favourite performer, but it’s always a pleasure when they manage a little time to explore after breakfast. I offer quick suggestions in the hallway, pointing them towards a peaceful walk on the dunes or a short visit to the pier so they can enjoy a taste of the coast before heading home.
It’s one of the busiest events of the year, and St Annes is buzzing. If you’re not coming for the music, I always suggest choosing quieter dates so you can enjoy the town at a gentler pace.
For now, though, the sun is out, the music is about to start, and the front door at The Claremont is welcoming guests for a night to remember.
